Who hasn’t wanted to scratch off ‘rode a horse around Churchill Downs’ from the bucket list? 24-year-old Kentucky guy Michael Wells-Rody tried to do just that Saturday during Breeders Cup festivities, but he was stopped at the track entrance by officials who called in the cops and that led to Wells-Rody being hauled off to jail for a mugshot and processing.
A quick check of Rody’s Facebook page tells me that he’s familiar with horses and the ranch life. This wasn’t just some random jumping on a horse and hoping for the best. Rody could’ve handled himself out on that track.
A good time is to be had at Churchill Downs but for one Georgetown, Kentucky man, the fun went a little too far, according to police. Police say it all went down during the Breeders’ Cup festivities Saturday around 4 p.m.
They say 24-year-old Michael Wells-Rody was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he snuck into a restricted area. That’s when they say Wells-Rody mounted a horse and rode it out of the tunnel area into the track entrance of Churchill Downs.
The Lexington Herald-Leader added: Kentucky State Police said in an arrest citation that Michael Wells-Rody, 24, “was manifestly under the influence of alcoholic beverages” when he “snuck into a restricted area he was not authorized to be in” and took off on a horse.
Innocent until proven guilty.
Here’s Wells-Rody doing cowboy things…he was fine on that horse:
