NASCAR CEO/Chairman Brian France was arrested Sunday evening for both driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance. You’d assume a guy worth $1 billion would avoid doing something stupid like driving hammered, but apparently not, because police in the Hamptons busted his ass after he allegedly drove through a stop sign.

The press release from Sag Harbor Police (via Darren Rovell):

On August 05, 2018 at 730pm the Sag Harbor Village Police Department arrested Brian Z. France for aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree. Mr. France was observed operating a 2017 Lexus northbound on Main Street failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign. Upon traffic stop it was determined that Mr. France was operating said vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Upon search of his person due to a lawful arrest Mr. France was in possession of Oxycodone pills. Mr. France was arrested and processed held overnight for arraignment in the morning. Mr. France was arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on 08/06/2018 at 930AM where he was released on his own recognizance.

The Lexus France was driving was probably a 2017 ES 350, which he purchased in September of 2017:

TMZ reports France’s BAC was more than twice the legal limit and that he tried to weasel his way out of this by name dropping No. 45:

We’re told France’s blood alcohol level was more than TWICE the legal limit. Cops say during the stop, they found oxycodone pills during a search of his person.

France was arrested and hauled to a nearby station where he was booked for DUI and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree. France spent the night in jail and was released Monday morning after his arraignment.

And sources tell us … during the process, France was name-dropping all of the powerful people he knew and even mentioned his relationship with President Donald Trump.

The statement from NASCAR:
