Police have finally put alleged child rapist Simon Porter in jail after he was added to Tennessee’s Most Wanted List for sexual assaulting a 16-month-old boy. Physicians at Vanderbilt University Medical Center recently alerted authorities to the alleged crime that had taken place.

Simon Dean Porter, a 43-year-old from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, was a fugitive who was wanted for aggravated child rape. Police said a passerby spotted Porter as he was walking along the 15000 block of Alabama Highway 79 early Sunday morning. The passerby recognized Porter from Tennessee’s Most Wanted.

More from Newsweek:

According to WKRN-TV, a local news outlet, law enforcement became aware the boy had been assaulted after being notified by doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center Tuesday.

Lt. Blake Grooms said that Porter had “implicated himself” during an interview with police. He fled as law enforcement was obtaining an arrest warrant, WKRN-TV reported.

“This case rips my heart out,” Grooms, of Lawrenceburg Police Department, told local media. “I can’t even express it. I’m not even a parent but when someone tells me that a 16-month-old child has been maliciously and intentionally hurt, words cannot describe it.” He added: “The little boy was hurt pretty bad. To the point of permanent damage for the rest of his life.”

A quick search through Porter’s Facebook trail shows at least six different accounts that have been active over the years. Why six accounts? No clue. I’ll leave that up to the investigators because I’ll puke and want to strangle this animal to death.

Here’s a photo taken by Scottsboro, Alabama police shortly after Simon Porter was captured. We appreciate the hard work of all the agencies involved in the search for Porter!
